Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is the Catholic Church’s guide for how we should live out our faith in the world — especially in how we treat others. It helps us apply the message of Jesus to issues like justice, poverty, peace, and the care of creation. At its heart, Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that every person is made in the image of God and deserves love, respect, and dignity.
The 7 Key Principles of Catholic Social Teaching
- Life and Dignity of the Human Person:
Every life is sacred. We must respect and protect all people, from conception to natural death.
Family and Community
We are not meant to live alone — we build communities that promote the common good and help everyone take part in society.
- Rights and Responsibilities:
Everyone has basic human rights (like food, shelter, and education) and a duty to protect the rights of others.
- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable:
Jesus taught us to care especially for those who are struggling or left behind.
- The Dignity of Work
Work is a way to share in God’s creation. Workers have the right to fair pay, safe conditions, and respect.
- Solidarity and the Common Good.:
We are one human family — regardless of race, nationality, or religion. We stand together for justice and peace.
- Care for God’s Creation (Stewardship):
The Earth is a gift from God, and we must look after it for future generations.
Why It Matters
Catholic Social Teaching challenges us to live our faith not just in church, but in our everyday choices — how we treat others, care for the environment, and stand up for what’s right.
