Special Needs and SEND
‘Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) benefit from the support provided by skilled staff.’ OFSTED 2024
At St Joseph’s R.C. Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the very best opportunity to learn, grow and succeed. We are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment in which every child is valued as a unique individual and is supported to reach their full potential.
In keeping with our school’s Mission Statement and Catholic ethos, we aim to promote the personal development of every child, encouraging self-awareness, self-respect and respect for the individual gifts, needs and differences of others.
We recognise that some children may need additional or different support at different points during their time at school. We work hard to identify individual needs as early as possible and, wherever we can, remove barriers to learning so that all children can participate fully in school life and experience success.
Our approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is guided by the SEND Code of Practice: 0–25 years. Special educational provision is provision that is additional to, or different from, that which is normally available to children of the same age.
We are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils. Teachers, support staff, families and outside professionals work together, where appropriate, to ensure that children with SEND receive the support they need. We recognise the important role that parents and carers play and aim to work in partnership with families throughout their child’s time at St Joseph’s.
