English
At St Joseph’s, we believe that English is at the heart of all learning. Through reading, writing, speaking, and listening, children develop the skills to express themselves clearly, creatively, and confidently.
Our English curriculum is designed to foster a love of literature by introducing pupils to a wide range of texts that inspire imagination, curiosity, and critical thinking. In writing, we use the Pathways to Write framework as the structure for our lessons. This approach helps pupils plan, draft, and refine their writing systematically, building their skills step by step while encouraging creativity and independence.
Alongside this, we focus on developing strong reading comprehension, accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and the ability to write for a variety of purposes and audiences. Above all, we aim to nurture enthusiastic, thoughtful, and lifelong readers and writers.
