PE
At St Joseph’s, we recognise Physical Education as a vital part of a child’s all-round development. Our PE curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to develop a love of physical activity while building the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to lead healthy, active lives.
Through a broad and balanced curriculum, pupils are taught to develop fundamental movement skills, including agility, balance and coordination, before applying these within a wide range of physical activities. These include games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and opportunities for outdoor and adventurous activity, ensuring progression and challenge as children move through the school.
We place a strong emphasis on physical competence, teamwork and fair play. Children are encouraged to work collaboratively, show respect for others and demonstrate resilience and perseverance. Opportunities for both competitive and non-competitive activities help pupils to build confidence, self-belief and a positive attitude towards sport.
In line with our Catholic ethos, PE at St Joseph’s also supports pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Children are taught to value their own abilities, respect the strengths of others and understand the importance of cooperation, honesty and compassion. We aim to nurture pupils who appreciate the importance of caring for their bodies as part of God’s creation.
By the time children leave St Joseph’s, they will have developed the skills, understanding and motivation needed to participate confidently in physical activity and to make healthy lifestyle choices both now and in the future.
