Music
At St Joseph’s, we believe music is a vital part of a child’s education and plays an important role in developing creativity, confidence and self-expression. Music also enriches our Catholic life, supporting prayer, worship and celebration within our school community.
Our music curriculum is designed to inspire pupils to develop a lifelong love of music. Children are encouraged to listen, perform, compose and appraise music from a wide range of styles, cultures and historical periods. Through this, they develop musical skills, vocabulary and an understanding of how music is created and communicated.
Music teaching at St Joseph’s follows a progressive and inclusive approach, ensuring that all pupils, regardless of ability, can succeed and participate. Lessons build sequentially on prior learning, allowing children to develop their skills in singing, rhythm, notation and instrumental performance over time.
Opportunities to perform are an important part of musical life at St Joseph’s. Pupils regularly take part in class performances, assemblies, liturgies and school celebrations, helping to build confidence and a sense of community. Music is used to enhance worship and reflection, enabling children to express their faith in a joyful and meaningful way.
Through our music curriculum, we aim to nurture talent, encourage creativity and enable every child to experience the joy and spiritual richness that music can bring.
